The Humane League's 88% Campaign focuses on improving the lives of the vast majority of farm animals in the U.S. — chickens raised for meat. These animals represent 88% of the farm animals raised and killed for the U.S. food supply annually. That's almost 9 billion chickens a year that live a short, unnatural and often painful life followed by a cruel and terrifying death.

filth
Trapped in Filth

Hardee's and Carl's Jr. sources chicken from industrial farming operations that house hundreds of thousands of birds inside filthy, windowless sheds. Due to this severe overcrowding, these birds are provided slightly more space than a sheet of paper to live on. Often they are unable to walk and lay in ammonia- laden litter causing sores and respiratory problems.

Bred to Suffer

Birds in Hardee's and Carl's Jr.’s supply chain have been so genetically manipulated that they grow to be three times as large as they would without such invasive tampering — and in less time. This accelerated growth leaves birds crippled under their own weight and causes a myriad of other problems.
