Subject: Francesca DeBiase & Loyola's Quinlan School of Business
Body:
Dear Quinlan School of Business Leadership,
I recently learned that Francesca DeBiase, the Chief Supply Chain and Sustainability Officer of McDonald’s, is currently serving on the board of advisors for the Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University. With Loyola University being dedicated to preparing business leaders to contribute to society through ethical and social responsibility, I felt that it was important to reach out to you about a campaign against McDonald’s, and the implications it has for Francesca’s involvement in animal cruelty.
In 2018, The Humane League, alongside a coalition of animal protection organizations, launched an international campaign asking McDonald’s to adopt basic animal welfare standards for the millions of chickens in its supply chain as others, like Subway and Burger King, have already done. Currently, chickens raised for McDonald’s menu are forced to live in deplorable conditions on factory farms where they receive virtually no protection from egregious abuse and neglect.
While I am proud to be a student at Loyola University, I have concerns about Ms. DeBiase’s ability to guide our school, when under her guidance, McDonald’s is neglecting such important social responsibility issues. I hope that you take into account the ethics and morals of the business leaders of our world when considering whom to be honor as a member on the Board of Advisors. It is crucial that we take our school’s partnerships with organizations and businesses seriously and strive to partner with business leaders who have reputable morals and ethics.
As a highly regarded university that strives to create the next generation of top business leaders, our Board of Advisors should also be aligned with that mission and end this affiliation.
